May 2014 Project Update

It's been a while since I've posted anything here, but I am knitting away. Here are some of the projects I've completed from April thru May.

Braided Cables Capelet

Bayarri  Cardigan - from the Berrocco Design Team, the pattern is in Book #307 (Linsey). I purchased the book directly from Berrocco (when they were still offering that service), because I loved the pattern so much. However, didn't purchase the yarn until quite a bit later on, from Webs on a trip to their store during my stay in Hartford for Stitches East (I think 2010/2011?). The yarn was in their sale room, so the price was right!

Maggiknits Beverly Scarf - purchased the scarf as a kit, which included a matching scarf slide, from Maggi Jackson's website. She was having a sale on certain items, and since I loved making her other scarves, I thought I would try this one. It's in linen, so perfect for the warmer weather.

Weekend Wrap - Purchased the pattern (from Cocoknits) and the cotton tape yarn (Lang Sol Degrade) from Knit-a-Bit in Westfield, during the N.J. Wool Walk. Quick project, fun to make, and ideal for the summer.

Flora - a scarf/shawl pattern from Lori Versaci, I made the smaller (scarf) version. Purchased the pattern from Ravelry, and the yarn from Down Cellar in Basking Ridge, during the N.J. Wool Walk.

Braided Cables Capelet - the pattern is from the Premier issue (2011) of Knitwear magazine. It's the cover photo. I purchased the yarn (Swans Island Natural Colors Merino Bulky in Russet) during Super Bowl weekend this year from Down Cellar. Didn't have a project in mind. Just liked the color and the feel of the yarn. I only bought 5 skeins (that's all they had), so I used Ravelry to search for a pattern. Luckily I already had the magazine.

Zoe 3-in-1 Dress

Molly Hat - Purchased a skein of String Theory Caper Aran at Stitches East in 2012 for a class. However, I didn't need the yarn, so i searched Ravelry for a hat pattern, and found the Molly Hat.

Toby Roxane KAL - Toby's first KAL on Ravelry. Used Tosh Merino Light left over from previous projects. However, had to purchase more yarn to finish it up.

Zoe 3-in-1 Dress - I used Dancing Leaf Farms hand-dyed yarn purchased at Rhinebeck last October, with the intention of making a dress they had on display. However, the dress would have been too small, so I searched Ravelry and found this wonderful pattern. the top has a cable motif  that are actually owls, and a lace trim at the bottom. I made the dress version, but the pattern includes versions for a tunic length as well as a romper/jumpsuit. It's needed from the top down, so it can be lengthed (or shortened) after the fact. Fun to make!

January 2014 Project Update

Challah Infinity Scarf - The pattern is on Ravelry, and I purchased the yarn at Uncommon Threads in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Gradient Cowl - The yarn was purchased at The Blue Purl in Madison, N.J., and the pattern was free with the purchase. Started and completed this project over New Year's week.

Maggiknits O'Connor Scarf - This kit from Maggie Jackson was purchased at Stitches East in 2012. Finally got around to making it.

December 2013 Project Update

December was devoted to holiday presents. This year, I managed to use stash yarn for all of these projects.

Bobble Beanie - From "60 Quick Baby Knits". Pattern #60 in the book. Used Cascade 220 Superwash. Matches the baby afghan I made last year for the newest member of the family!

Wavy Stripes Slouch - From "Knitting Clothes Kids Love". Used Cascade 220 Superwash.

Chunky Cabled Hat - From "Knitting Clothes Kids Love". Used Cascade 220 Superwash.

Star Wars Storm Trooper's Hat - Found the pattern on Ravelry, and used Cascade 220 Superwash from my stash. Present for a big Star Wars fan. It was a hit!!

Lucy Pevensie Tam (Celtic Tam) - Found the pattern on Ravelry, and used Berroco Vintage Chunky from my stash. Present for an avid Irish Dancer!

Garter Ridge Earflap Hat - From "60 Quick Baby Knits". Pattern #56 in the book. Used Cascade 220 Superwash, and enlarged it for a 2 year old.

Moebius Scarf - From "A Treasury of Magical Knitting" by Cat Bordhi. Created the scarf from several patterns in the book, to match the yarn weight and amount that I had. used a skein I purchased last fall at the New Jersey Sheep & Wool Festival. Yarn as Rainbow Twist Handspun, Mon Ami, 2 ply Polworth.

Felted Mittens - Pattern was from Knitability (Hand Jive), and used Lamb's Pride worsted in various colors. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture before giving them away.

October/November 2013 Update

Westminster Shawl - Used Handmaiden Camelspin, which I purchased in Sutton, Quebec on a bike vacation in 2012. The shop is called Mont Tricot, and it is a really nice one! The pattern is from Toby Roxane's London Underground booklet, which I purchased as an ebook from Ravelry. I attended her trunk show at The Knitter's Edge in Bethlehem PA., and like her designs, so I decided to make some of them. Next on the list are 2 shawls from her Tarot Collection (using stash yarn, of course).



Japarta Off Road - Used Tosh Merino Light. One skein was purchased at Adirondack Yarns in Lake Placid New York in January 2013, as part of another project (Color Affection - in progress). I decided the colors for that project were too dull, so recently purchased another color from Blue Purl in Madison, N.J., and thus this project was set! This project was part of the Nimara and Japarta Knit-a-thon, which was a fundraiser for the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund. The designer donated to the fund, based on the yardage used for the project.




Darn Knit Rasta Hat -  Used Rainbow Twist Handspun purchased at the New Jersey Sheep and Wool Festival in September, directly from the spinner. Great colors, and really big yarn. This pattern was great to highlight the yarn. The colorway is Saltwater Taffy, and it looks exactly like the name!

 

Color Affection Shawl - Used Tosh Light purchased at Adirondack Yarns in Lake Placid NY, and Blue Purl in Madison, NJ.

Leftie shawl/scarf - purchased the main color and pattern at Miss Babs' booth at NYS Sheep & Wool 2012 in Rhinebeck, N.Y. The stripes are left overs from Claudia Hand Paints(fingering weight).
     


Estonian Stitch hat - The textured brim of the hat is from a class I took at Stitches East 2012, to learn Estonian stitch patterns. I finished up the strip in October, and turned it into a hat.

  

Downton Abbey Felted Hat - from the Downton Abbey Knits magazine. Purchased the magazine and yarn (Ella Rae worsted) on an impulse at Trillion Yarns in Harding, N.J. in September.

July 2013 Update

 

These are projects I've finished in the last few months (since March).

Patchwork Baby Blanket (#16 from 60 Baby Quick Knits) - yarn is Cascade 220 superwash, purchased from a variety of places. I tried various color combinations, and finally settled on the colors shown in the book. Finished at the end of May. A gift for my new grand-niece!

Dropped Stitch Scarf - there are many variations of this pattern. This version is from The Blue Purl in Madison, N.J. This is the second time I've made this scarf; the first one was a gift and I liked it so much, decided to make one for me! I used Blue Heron Rayon Metallic in Mossy Place/Copper, purchased at Stitches East in 2011.

Tulsa Scarf - the pattern and yarn is from Shibui, purchased at a store in Basking Ridge N.J. that is no longer in business. I purchased it sometime in 2011. The yarn is Staccato.

Re-Su Katabira- from Knit Kimono Too (by Vicki Square). Used Twisted Sister Hand Painted Mirage (a cotton blend), and completed it in time for our vacation in June. Purchased the yarn at Gazebo Plus in New Hope, PA, a very long time ago. I kept changing my mind about what pattern to use, and finally decided I wanted it for this spring/summer.The pattern is on the cover of the book. It came out great, and I wore it a lot in Paris!

Groove Scarf - from Stephen West on knitty.com. Used Fibre Company Acadia - 2 colors, purchased at Down Cellar in Basking Ridge, N.J. at their Super Bowl Sale.

February 2013 Update

Limestone Shawl - Zen Garden yarn purchased at Adirondack Yarns in Lake Placid. Pattern is on Ravelry.

Esther's Slouchy Hat - pattern is from Nicky Epstein's new book "Knitting in Circles". Yarn is Tosh Pashmina Worsted (purchased at Knit-a-Bit at their anniversary sale last year).
